Q & A with Kirsten Prout from ABC Family’s ‘The Lying Game’
Filed Under: Uncategorized

We recently got to ask Kirsten Prout, who you may know from her roles in Kyle XY, Twilight: Eclipse, or Elektra, about her most recent role on ABC Family’s new hit TV drama “The Lying Game” where she plays Char, one of Sutton’s bff’s. We got the inside scoop on fashion, adapting to living in Austin, the drama to come, and why fans will adore her character. Check it out and tune in on Monday’s at 9 pm EST to ABC Family to see ‘The Lying Game’.

ABC Family has been on a roll with their shows becoming extremely popular. How did it feel when you heard that you had been cast as Char?

I’d already experienced working with the wonderful folks at ABC Family, so naturally, I was thrilled to know we’d all be reunited. Loving our show and loving the network brings a great energy to the set.

How have you adjusted to living in Austin, where the show is filmed?

I have a great, eclectic, country-style home in a beautiful area where my dog can run around for hours. I’ve been fortunate enough to see some great live music, eat some amazing food, and really take in the city. The people here are so warm, welcoming, and progressive. I’ve felt so lucky that the show relocated here.

Who is Char…why will viewers relate to her?

Who hasn’t tried to make light of things that stress them out? What girl hasn’t gone on a shopping trip with their girlfriends after a tough week? Char may be a little wrapped up in the popularity contest of high school, but at the end of the day she’s a caring person who loves her friends. I think the audience will grow to appreciate her fast-talking, bossy little loyal self.

Had you read the books before auditioning?

No, I went into the audition with my own idea of Char.

Is working on The Lying Games very different from the other well-known shows and movies you have been in (Kyle XY, Twilight:Eclipse, Elektra)?

Every show is different, and you learn something new on every set. That’s the great part of being an actor, some staple things stay the same, but your environment is always changing.

Fashion seems to be a big part of the show as well. Do you get to bring any of your own fashion sense into your character?

Char is quite a bit more dressed up than I usually am, but Mimi [the costume designer] and I have a lot of fun collaborating and thinking up Char’s wardrobe.

How is the environment on set? Does everyone get along and mesh well together?

Absolutely. Austin’s crew is unbelievably professional and hardworking, and our cast is very down to earth and easygoing.

What should the fans expect from Season 1 of The Lying Game?

Every episode will get more intense, you’ll be totally hooked by mid season, and you should expect to be totally surprised at every turn!

Why do you think this show is going to be a hit?

I sincerely think that our show has a great balance of mystery, drama, and comedy. Anyone can relate to the central theme of appreciating the life you have, because there’s always someone who would give anything to take your place. Sutton sees her life as a typical teenage struggle, But when Emma steps into her place, she feels like Cinderella. It’s all a matter of perspective.

If you love what you hear, make sure to tune in to ‘The Lying Game’ on ABC Family every Monday at 9 pm EST and keep up with Kirsten by following her on twitter @kcprout.

“Starting Artists on Demand for me was about spotlighting my favorite bands, some of which I felt didn’t get the attention they deserved” –Gorman

Vicky Gorman is a 23 year old entrepreneur and the brains behind Artists On Demand.

Artists on Demand Radio came about when Vicky Gorman brought the idea to start a talk radio show
to Nikki Moore, one of the shows other four managers. The inspiration behind it was that their favorite independent bands weren’t getting the recognition they deserved. They started inviting bands and musicians that needed an outlet to share their music and their stories. As they continued to grow, the listeners voiced the idea of having other forms of artists on the show. They now host shows that feature some of today’s hottest celebrities in categories including acting, dance, music, authors, directors, and producers.

For all of you vampire lovers out there, Artists on Demand has recently featured actors from “True Blood” and the latest in the “Twilight Saga: Eclipse.”

“I’m very proud of what we have achieved with Artists on Demand. The team we currently have is giving their best and is really getting the show out there. The sky is the limit!”

When asked about their future goals for the show, Gorman shared “We want to take Artists on Demand to a bigger audience. We want people to recognize that we can bring them opportunities that most radio shows don’t. We enjoy giving the fans one to one time with their favorite celebrities.”

July 2010 Interview with Kristin Downer, Program Manager of AOD
Filed Under: Uncategorized

Artists On Demand radio has become one of the most popular entertainment shows on Blog Talk Radio with listeners in the thousands. You can find everything from today’s hottest up and coming bands/musicians, popular artists and photographers, directors, producers, and the most popular celebrities from TV and movies.

Presenter and booker Kristin Downer kindly agreed to answer some quick fire questions about herself, her music tastes and what she looks for from musicians on AOD:

1. What are your passions in life?
My life is filled with different kinds of passions. I love finding different and new things and helping spread the word about them. I love music and find it invigorating to find something new and unique that gives you a breath of fresh air when it comes to a business full of the same sound. I love books, and movies, and anything that can really catch your attention. And of course I am first and foremost a mom.

2. Tell us about Artist on Demand radio and how it started.
Artists On Demand started with two of my best friends, Nikki Moore and Vicky Gorman. They wanted a place for their favorite bands and musicians to be able to share their music and their own passions. I joined shortly after it started and it has taken on a life of its own! It’s much bigger than what we originally thought it would be and we have high hopes for it in the future. We interview mainstream celebrities from the hottest TV shows and Movies. We also interview directors, producers, authors, dancers, and anyone else with an art form of any kind. We pride ourselves on giving independent musicians and bands a place to share their music though. Music is our number one passion.

3. What 5 up and coming bands do you recommend we check out?

Five up and coming bands that I think everyone should check out are:

The Nova Echo – Their music is fresh and upbeat. They can make you dance or just sway in place and it always draws you in with the lyrics and the sound. They are also some of the nicest and most down to earth people you will ever meet.

100 Monkeys – I have listened to this band for quite a while and over the past year they have evolved so much. They started out just doing improv songs that they made up from ideas from the audience and themselves. Now they write amazing music with meaningful lyrics. They are multi-talented and put on an amazing stage performance which includes their “switcharoos” where the band switches up instruments throughout the show.

Ian Axel – Ian is an amazing singer/songwriter out of New York. His skills on the piano are to die for and his music is soulful and smooth. You can hear the passion he puts into his work. I would recommend him to anyone.

EdstanleY: They are a band out of Los Angeles that are getting ready to do a mini tour around the west coast. They have a heavier sound, but amazing at the same time. Very down to earth guys with a great sound and great passion.

Forever The Day – This band has not yet been on AOD, but I am hoping for it in the near future. An amazing group of guys with an amazing sound. They have a very classical rock feel to them and have amazing musicians within the band that add to the songs. It is well worth checking them out.

4. Do you have a tips for musicians applying to be on Artists on Demand?
The only tip for musicians that are wanting to come on Artists On Demand is to be themselves. We like unique music, upbeat personalities, and people who just generally care about their careers. We don’t want to hear someone playing someone else’s music. We want you to show who you are as a musician just give us all you got. Be you.

5. What online sites do you use the most to discover new music?
We use all sources to discover new music. A lot of the music we find is on referrals from other bands, our listeners, or a lot come from our staff. Myspace is also a great place for new music. Myspace Music has charts for unsigned and signed bands. You can find anyone you want and any genre you want. Reverbnation is also a great avenue to find good music. All the information you could want about a band is on there.

Sean Berdy Interview

You play Emmett on ABC Family’s Switched at Birth? What does it feel like to know you are playing a role that everyone seems to love, but also one that is constantly teaching the viewers about the Deaf Community?

I would smile every time when I was told that I have become known as a character that everyone seems to love. It is a nice compliment and remarks that the fans said. Portraying Emmett is something incredible for me to give out my authentic entertainment for the viewers.

What do you love about playing Emmett?

I love everything about Emmett. He’s such a bad guy with so much heart on the side. The similarities between my character, Emmett, in Switched at Birth and myself are solely full deaf and use American Sign Language. We have the same interest in photography. The difference is Emmett is a deaf James Dean type and speak for himself bluntly in any type of situation. He doesn’t really care and tends to make up his own mind. I am completely opposite to the character I portrayed. I’m just a guy who has so much love and care for everyone.

You’re character and Vanessa Marano’s character, Bay, have struck up this new relationship. What can fans expect from that relationship in the remainder of the episodes?

Our relationship is definitely was an unexpected, charming development that the audience will view differently on the other way around. Emmett has found interest into Bay and is madly in love with her. They combined together so well and is eager to up-beat the relationship in every way. It’s a new experience for Bay/Emmett and they eventually will build up strongly.

Your character started off as a small role and has built over time. Will the fans continue to see that character growth?

Absolutely, the fans will see a lot of more Emmett in every episode which is exciting news!

How was the audition process for you in order to get the role of Emmett?

I know the producers were looking for a deaf James Dean and I sure felt I deserve the moniker as a character’s title. I even analyze him on YouTube and read numerous of articles and stories. From time to time, I went into the audition room and the producers are eager to see my work. Then, a couple of weeks later I got a call from them saying that they’re interested in me, It’s tremendously fun to evaluate myself to have some James Dean alike on the show.

How does it make you feel when you hear of fans learning sign language and sending you videos of them with messages for you?

Yes, I received tons of videos from the fans and I surely felt great. It is such a great honor and they deserve much love and respect from me.

You are a very artistic person. We know you act and dance. What other artistic outlets do you enjoy?

I have so many interests besides acting that keeps my mind running. I love having fun and laughing as much as I can. I love to bring my jokes, stories and explain to bunch of families and friends. I love to entertain people in every way I could do. Dancing is one of my other favorite things to do as I would dance around the house consistently with a big loud sound system which contains speakers and a subwoofer. The whole house is shaking and some things may fall! When I’m in town to visit my family, I always dance right in front of television blocking my mom to watch, and yet she enjoys. Also, I love photography and modeling. To capture an amazing still picture is fascinating and been doing it for a passion. I also do graphic design with my Adobe CS5 premium and been doing it since when I was a young boy. And, I do make film projects independently and with friends and have them edited in Final Cut Pro. There are more including paintball, golf, cooking.

You are always tweeting about how you are blasting music at your house. What is it about music that you love so much?

I love Michael Jackson and any Pop genre music. I do really hear them with my hearing aid. Music never cease to make me tired.

Are you working on any other projects currently while you are off from filming Switched at Birth??

Today, I am developing my new superlative one man show called “The Sean Berdy Show” that will bring my comedy standup, life stories, storytelling, skits and performance to life. The show is entirely used in American Sign Language. I would be performing for deaf audiences and eventually, hearing audiences too. The show is something that the audience will never see like this before. It is all contributed to the fans and I believe they deserve to be entertained in every way in real life. That is why I’m creating this magnificent show and I’m really extremely excited to have it shown. Also, I will be shooting an ASL music version of Hero by Enrique Iglesias. Should be coming out in the fall.

A Big Thank you to Sean Berdy for taking the time to talk to us!
